Stop Losing Trust Over Small Mistakes: Easy Branding Fixes You Can Do Today!

Writer's picture: Jen RafflesJen Raffles

I opened up an email this week where the sender had their services listed at the bottom (credit to them; a great idea - always be plugging those services where your audience is guaranteed to see them), but straight away, I spotted a tiny mistake. And we’re not talking spelling or grammar. No, the mistake this sender had made was indeed small, but it instantly told me they hadn’t reviewed their email template recently.

Now for me, as someone who notices the smaller details, that's a little red flag for trust 🚩

I know, why so dramatic, Jen? What the heck did it say? It was a statement that a certain service started "in the new year." Now, maybe they meant 2026 - sure, it's a little early, but herein lies the problem. I’m confused. And a confused audience isn’t buying, my friend.

Branding isn't just about the big things like your logo or website design, it’s also the small, easily overlooked details that shape how professional and trustworthy your business feels. While these micro easy fixes might not seem significant on their own, collectively, they can make a real difference in how your brand is perceived.

Here are a few small but mighty tweaks you can make to support your brand’s credibility and consistency.

A Floppy Disc

🖥️ Update Your Copyright Year & Website Footers

As a web designer, my gosh this one bugs me. A website with an outdated copyright year can make it look like nothing has been touched in ages, even if everything else is current. Take a moment to update it, and while you’re at it actually, check if your footer includes any old links, incorrect business details, or outdated messaging, as this is visible on every page.

Again, that confusion over a wrong date vs current sales information, or still having 'Christmas Posting Information' (Yep, I have seen that one too!) as a link in your footer is only causing confusion and switching off an audience that are already there on your website! 😅

💌 Refresh Your Emails

Your email signature is a subtle but constant brand touchpoint. Does it reflect your branding? Are your links up to date? Is your logo crisp and clear? Even something as simple as making sure your social links work or your job title is accurate can add to a polished, professional impression. A side note to this is to check the size of your signature too, a giant attachment could be causing issues you are not aware of and an overwhelming image to a small welcome email may put off a first-time contact.

Whilst you are at it, is your Out-of-Office and auto-reply up to date too, and still making sense? We set these things up and trust they are working well for us, but they definitely need checking in with now and again.

How about your welcome sequences and automated thank-you/welcome emails? These should feel intentional and on-brand, consistent with how your web and socials look and sound but also consistent with current marketing/sales information. A quick and regular review can ensure they’re written in your current brand voice, provide relevant up to date information, and create a positive experience for anyone receiving them. ❤️

📱Review Your Social Media Bios

I have a feeling that a lot of folks' social media bios are set up once and then forgotten about, but guess what.... your business evolves. It is ok to change up your bio often especially if something is not working or connecting. Do they still reflect what you offer? Are they aligned across platforms? A fresh bio that clearly states who you are and how you help can better attract your ideal audience.

If you haven't changed your bio in a while, a refresh could be what you need to reach new audiences. Instagram has recently made updates to how our Bios look so now is a great time for a refresh and a review of your SEO basics (yes, this applies to socials!).

Even I gave mine a recent refresh! I also deleted off my highlights in favour of more useful pinned posts, check out my Instagram: www.instagram.com/magicfeatherdesigns 🤗

🗓️ Check for ‘Dated’ Content Across Your Business

This one was inspired by that email I received recently! It’s easy for little things like this to slip through the cracks, but they can make your business seem neglected if we are not careful. Review your About page, service descriptions, pinned posts, and any other key content to ensure everything still reflects your current offerings and messaging.

I myself have a bit of copy on my website with a date on it which I make sure to update yearly, when I do my copyright tag. I make sure that anything I create that calls for a date, is worded in a way that doesn't need checking in with each year. For example, instead of saying "I have been in business 13 years", I say "I have been designing since 2012" (future readers, be aware of when I wrote this post so I don't have to come back and update that sentence, ok!) 👍🏻

📌 Review Your Pinned Posts (Instagram & TikTok)

Firstly, if you have no pinned posts then change this ASAP, having pinned posts is a great way to include a banner of branding with useful information within it - making your socials helpful as well as on-brand and attractive. Think of them like mini website pages, include one about your services/products, one about you and another could be a portfolio or how to book in with you.

If you do have pinned posts on social media, make sure they’re still relevant. If your most visible content is outdated or no longer aligns with your current focus, it might be time for a refresh. Think of these posts as an introduction to your brand - are they still the first impression you want to give? 🤨

⛓️‍💥 Make Sure Your Links Work

Again, a huge bugbear for any web designer! There are many reasons why a well-designed, easy-to-navigate website is an absolute must for businesses but that is a bigger post for another day. For now, the quickest micro win you can make for your website is to regularly check your links.

Few things for visitors are more frustrating than clicking on a link that goes nowhere. Do a quick audit of your website (plus social media bios, email footers, and any other places where you direct people to key content!), ensuring everything is functional makes for a smoother experience and prevents potential clients from dropping off due to broken links. Again, you have them right there on your website, do everything you can to make life nice and easy so they stick around! 😇

📢 Review Your Calls to Action (CTAs)

Do your CTAs still align with your business goals? If your focus has shifted, your CTAs should reflect that, whether it’s booking a call, signing up for your newsletter, or exploring your services. A simple wording tweak can make all the difference in guiding potential customers in the right direction.

If you have told people within your communications to 'fill in my form' to contact you... but then deleted your form in favour of something else then again, you are confusing your audience which is so easy to fix. ✔️

What did you think of this list of easy branding fixes, did I remind you to go check something? Go do it now! None of these changes require a full rebrand, but collectively they help to create a stronger, more cohesive business presence that keeps your audience coming back for more. They cut the confusion that might just be a block on sales you had not considered.
