Let’s be real - there’s a sea of small businesses out there. So how do you make sure yours is the one people remember? I am going to knock your little sockies off when I tell you this.... brace yourself now. Creating a memorable business all comes down to your branding. No, not just a logo. Not just pretty colours. But a brand built with strategy and purpose, one that truly feels authentic. Want to know how? Let's get in to it.

Start With Your Brand Basics:

Creating a memorable business starts with a strong brand with a solid core design. That means:

🌟 A Bold, Versatile Logo: Your logo should be unique to you and flexible enough to work across different platforms. Think about variations, so you can mix things up while staying recognisable. A versatile logo doesn’t just make life easier when it comes to creating content, it also means having the right sizes for the right content, giving everything that polished finish, rather than something that 'will do'. It needs to boil down to the little details, like a logo designed to fit your profile images rather than cutting off at the corners, or a favicon on your website URL that is a perfect little nod to your brand identity.

🌟 A Thoughtfully Chosen Colour Palette: Colour psychology is real. Big businesses utilise this, and so can smaller ones! The colours you use set the vive for your business and evoke emotions in your audience. Choosing them strategically ensures they align with your brand personality and attract the right people. Don't go crazy, there is such a thing as too many colours, and too little. Find that balance and the cohesiveness between the colours and the emotions they evoke.

🌟 A Purposeful Typography Pairing: As with colours, you can definitely have too much or too little when it comes to your font choices. Typography sets the tone of your brand, but it can also add personality and emotion too. Too many clashing fonts is the easiest way to create a chaotic-looking brand identity. Do you know what happens when things feel choatic? People switch off, they yeet on out. Oops!

🌟 Brand Marks & Visual Elements: These little extras; icons, patterns, or supporting graphics - help reinforce your brand identity and add that signature touch to your marketing. They make everything feel cohesive, polished, and unmistakably you. In this humble designers opinion, these should absolutely be part of your core branding, and not just an after thought.

The solid message I am putting to you here friend, when we talk about your core brand identity is to think about the small details. It is these small details that will add up to support a brand identity that feels well thought-out, considered, and purposeful, and guess what... a brand design that is ticking those boxes, throwing up zero red flags, is going to stick in people’s minds. Creating a memorable business for all the right reasons. Nice!

BUT Your Brand Is More Than Just Looks:

The hard work to remain top of people's minds does not stop there. Once you have your visuals down, it’s time to think about how your brand sounds and feels to your audience.

📢 Your Brand Voice & Personality: Are you playful? Reassuring? A straight-talker? However you communicate, make sure it’s consistent. A brand that speaks in a clear, authentic voice is one that people remember and connect with. Are you from an area with a distinct accent? Use that within how your brand sounds too! As the force behind the business, it is okay if that voice is also your voice.

📢 Where You Show Up & Who You’re Speaking To: Be intentional about where you show up and tailor your messaging for the right audience. When you know your ideal customers inside out, you can craft content and experiences that speak directly to them. When audiences read a post that feels like it is answering thoughts they have never voiced before - boom! You have them. Knowing your audience isn’t just knowing that they are 'women in their 30s', it is about understanding what issues that group has, what they are fearing, hoping, dreaming - and then answering those questions before they are even asked.

The key to your brand voice and message is understanding what you are saying and to whom. Do not just spurt out the same stuff others in your industry say, do not try and copy someone else’s content because their audience will be a different one to yours. When you are authentic and speak to the people directly in front of YOU, guess what... BOOM! You got them again. They remember you, and now they are fricking listening. Yasssss 🙌🏻

Next, Your Content. Don't Lose Them at the Last Hurdle:

You have your beautiful brand identity, you have nailed your voice and message - do not lose all that hard work now. Pull this together within your content.

💡 Have a Strategy: Consider what your audience wants/needs to hear. Consider how you are going to allow your audience to connect to you. Consider how you will inform your audience of what you do and how you could work together. Mix these types of content into a cohesive posting pattern that most importantly works for you. You do not have to listen to what "works" for each platform, you only have to do what is manageable for you, because at this point the goal is longevity. If it works for you, it works for your business and that means staying consistent will feel way more manageable.

💡 The Power of Storytelling: One of the most effective ways to make your brand memorable is through storytelling. People connect with emotions and experiences, not just products and services. Share your journey, your wins, your struggles, and your ‘why’. Let your audience see the real person behind the brand. When you tell a story, you invite people into your world and make them feel part of something bigger.

Lastly, Never Forget That Your Brand Experience Matters Too:

Beyond visuals, voice, and content, how people experience your brand is crucial in making it truly memorable. This last stretch includes:

🧡 Customer Journey & Service: From the first interaction to after-sales support, every touchpoint should feel seamless and aligned with your brand personality. Your customer journey is not just referring to the people you work with, it goes right back to the first time they stumble across your business, up to the point they finally decide to invest THEN through the journey of working with you AND afterwards. Their continued good impression of you.

🧡 Packaging & Presentation: If you have physical products, the way they are packaged can make a lasting impression. Unique, thoughtful packaging enhances brand recognition and can even encourage social sharing. Those extra steps that involve deciding on what colour packing paper to use, your stickers, if you include a handwritten note or a business card, or a little freebie - all the way through to who you use to deliver your parcels can all lead to a positive experience.

🧡 Community & Engagement: How do you engage with your audience? Do you have a community where people feel welcome? Whether it’s a newsletter, a Facebook group, or consistent replies to comments, creating a space where people feel heard makes your brand unforgettable. Don't want a community page or space? Use engagement stickers on your socials to encourage your audience to interact and tell you their thoughts and feelings.
